The Royal Rule of Jam
A Teacupful of Alice in Wonderland Trivia
From the massive literature about Lewis Carroll and his two Alice books - Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871) - the author has created 44 short “trivia units,” each about an Alice-related subject of interest to him, nothing more, nothing less. The random trivia units focus on selected topics in the two strange destinations - Wonderland and Looking-Glass world - visited by this young Victorian traveler, plus a few selected topics related to the English Victorian era (1837–1901), the time period during which the author of the Alice books lived and died. The trivia units include “Alice Rides the Victorian Railway,” “Long-Necked Alice as Treetop Scientist,” and “The White Queen’s Memorable Brain.” There are also two trivia units devoted to the egg-man Humpty Dumpty, the author’s favorite character in the second Alice book.
